Jazz, Funk and Soul at the Jazznojazz Festival
The Zurich Jazznojazz Festival takes place for the 19th time from November 1–4. Such luminaries as Abdullah Ibrahim, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Marcus Miller and Billy Cobham will be performing on three stages at Gessnerallee, while heavy-funk stars including Nils Landgren and Candy Dulfer, as well as Brother Strut, will be playing at the late-night sessions at Stall 6. Kicking off the program at the ZKB Club in the nearby Zurich University of the Arts is the internationally celebrated Kamasi Washington, followed by newcomers like Cécile McLorin Salvant, Cory Henry and Nik West, as well as by legends Mulatu Astatke and The Yellowjackets.

Sustainable Design
From November 2–5, the 8th edition of DESIGNGUT – the Swiss public design fair for sustainable goods – will be presenting for the eighth time a selection of labels that are sustainable without compromising on design or setting trends. Around 80 Swiss labels – including up-and-coming names such as Atelier Volvox or the bag designers from Juan the Ally – impress with their aspiration to create outstanding designs and innovations. In addition, DESIGNGUT is spreading all over Winterthur the DESIGNtutGUT map leads visitors through the city’s side streets and winding alleys, while the design guided walks are tours of discovery telling stories of local design heroes: beautiful, crazy and impressive.

International Short Film Festival in Winterthur
Held from November 7–12, the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur will be captivating thousands of movie enthusiasts for the 21st time. At the heart of the festival are the international and national competitions. In addition, curated short film programs provide an insight into hidden worlds and encourage audiences to take a closer look at political and social issues. The Kurzfilmtage festival is considered the most significant of its kind in Switzerland. Besides first-class short films, it offers a varied supporting program comprising concerts, art and parties.

Miniature Golf in Central Zurich
On November 9, Tribeka invites visitors to experience Zurich’s vibrant Kreis 3 and Kreis 4 districts from a completely different perspective. Evening turns to day and Zurich is transformed into the largest miniature golf course in Switzerland. Each locale decides for itself how to implement its own mini golf course and whether in addition music bands will play, anniversaries be celebrated or prizes awarded. Scorecards are available at 80 stores, bars and restaurants, while the golf clubs and balls are supplied by the locale proprietors. Admission is free.

International Designers at StageOne
The people of Zurich love things that are out of the ordinary – and so every year they make a pilgrimage to the blickfang international design exhibition in Zurich to purchase unusual items for their apartment, wardrobe or everyday life from the makers themselves. From November 10–12, blickfang Zürich is guesting at a new location, Stage One in Oerlikon, and using the new surroundings to set fresh accents: besides individual design presentations, the focus is on trends, design approach, and inspiration.

Awaiting visitors is an enchanting winter world of light, illumination, illusion, music, and cuisine – a world that appeals to all the senses, featuring magical storytelling, mystical creatures, and playful surprises, presented in the form of light installations for all the family.

Hear, Smell and Taste Christmas 
Visitors are enraptured by the wonderful ambiance at the Singing Christmas Tree with a Christmas market, held in the heart of Zurich. Here, from November 23 to December 23, they can listen to the choirs, pamper themselves with culinary delicacies, browse for typical Zurich souvenirs, or treat their youngsters to a ride on the old-style carousel. Thirty different choirs sing traditional Christmas carols or surprise with special works. The Christmas markets also offer all kinds of gastronomic delights to suit each and every taste.

Floating Candles on the River Limmat
The best way to enjoy the traditional “Lichterschwimmen” event is wrapped up snug and warm in a thick winter coat, hats and gloves. On December 21, at 6.00pm precisely, hundreds of tiny lanterns set sail on an atmospheric journey down the River Limmat. This delightful custom has been held for over 50 years now, and never fails to enthrall guests and locals alike. It is organized by Zürich Tourism and supported by the City Department of School and Sport. Schoolchildren from the Canton of Zurich make the lanterns and launch them on the water as a cheery Christmas greeting.

Partying, having fun, and marveling at the resplendent fireworks display put on by Swiss Casinos Zürich against the spectacular backdrop of Zurich’s lake basin: the grand New Year’s Eve party held on December 31 next to Lake Zurich once again promises to captivate visitors from both home and abroad. Come and enjoy culinary delights from all over the world at the numerous food stands, and visit the festival stages, bars and party tents. And as the highlight of the evening, you can enjoy the grand fireworks display starting at 12.20am, which heralds the New Year with a magnificent spectacle of lights high above Lake Zurich.
