Electric Bikes – History and Design
Nowadays riding a bike is seen as the very essence of urban lifestyle and youth, and the bicycle is turning into the latest symbol of speed and flexibility. Advances in electric bikes are also accelerating this process, while design and aesthetics are becoming an increasingly important part of the culture surrounding bikes and their accessories. From January 29–July 30, the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur takes a look at the wide variety of bike scenes in evidence today, as well as exploring cycling’s rich development potential for urban transport and examining some possible future scenarios. It features outstanding design products, from cult racing cycles to cutting-edge city bikes and high-performance cargo bikes for couriers and families.

It’s a Man’s World
Men once again have the opportunity to discover, enjoy, sample, try and network. In its second edition, staged from February 2–5, Man’s World presents brands and makers that provide an insight into their creative world. In the former ABB production hall, StageOne, visitors (men as well as women) can experience tradition combined with innovation. For the first time, the fair is holding a charity auction on the pre-opening day of February 1, conducted by the General Manager of Sotheby’s Switzerland the proceeds will go towards financing projects relating to men’s health.

OSIRIS – Egypt’s Sunken Mysteries
Saved from the depths off Egypt’s Mediterranean coast: this spectacular exhibition at the Museum Rietberg from February 10–July 16 shows around 300 statues and cult objects, sarcophagi and gold artefacts spanning sixteen centuries. They come from the two legendary towns, Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus, which sank below the sea in the 8th century AD. The exhibition revives one of the founding myths of ancient Europe – the Mysteries of Osiris. Age-old questions are answered and new stories recounted. Many of these rare objects have never before been seen in a German-speaking country.

The Intertwining of Body and Image
Almost two years ago, the Fotomuseum Winterthur launched its new exhibition format entitled SITUATIONS, which allows it to react more quickly and flexibly to developments within the field of photographic culture. The role of SITUATIONS is to define the Museum’s vision of what photography is and what it is becoming, at the same time offering an innovative integration of physical exhibition space and virtual forum. The current cluster theme, Flesh, which is held from February 11 to April 2, examines moments when body and image intertwine in a reflexive way. Featuring works by ORLAN, Christof Nüssli, Marie-Luise Marchand, Philipp Dorl and many others.

Excursion to the Sun Terrace of the Lake Zurich Region
Amden-Weesen offers sun, snow and magnificent views. Sun worshippers, snow enthusiasts and nature lovers will all find something to their liking here. Snowshoe trekking routes, cross-country trails, toboggan runs and a natural-ice rink allow visitors to enjoy the natural scenery. With some 20km (12 miles) of pistes, families are treated to a wonderful ski paradise. Off-piste, too, snowshoe trekkers can explore the region on four marked routes and delight in the tranquility of the spectacular winter landscape.
