Zurich’s Contribution to Clean-Up Day 2016
On September 9 & 10, the spotlight is on littering: on National Clean-Up Day 2016, the IGSU – the Interest Group for a Clean Environment in Switzerland – is calling on towns and villages, clubs and societies, schools and companies to rid the streets, squares, meadows and forests of trash that has been left lying around. In Zurich and surrounding region, too, waste products are collected and correctly disposed of. In addition to various banks and schools, the Hotel Schweizerhof is actively taking part in the clean-up action: as last year, on Friday, September 9, hotel employees will be clearing parts of Zurich’s Old Town of litter.

Winterthur for Theater Buffs
It is widely known that Winterthur is home to many excellent museums. However, its theater scene, too, holds numerous unique gems in store. Impressive musical theater, gripping plays and special programs for children and young people can be found at the Theater Winterthur, the largest theater for guest performers in the German-speaking region. The Casinotheater Winterthur, which is financed and managed by artists, attracts the “who’s who” of German-language cabaret and comedy. At the Kellertheater Winterthur, meanwhile, first-class contemporary drama takes to the stage. Moreover, the Theater Kanton Zürich travelling theater has been taking first-class performances from Winterthur out into all corners of the canton for over 40 years.

Whether international luminaries such as Lessing, Molière, Schiller or Shakespeare, musical geniuses like Monteverdi, Mozart, Puccini and Strauss, classic Swiss writers such as Dürrenmatt, Frisch and Gotthelf, or contemporary authors like Lukas Bärfuss or Pedro Lenz: the works of all of these great names can be enjoyed at Winterthur’s theaters.
