Zürich – World Class. Swiss Made.
The new Swiss National Museum
In August 2016 the Swiss National Museum in Zurich will open its impressive new modern extension. The country’s most popular cultural history museum showcases Swiss history, revealing the many faces of Switzerland as well as our historical, social and cultural diversity.
The National Museum consists of a charming historical building dating back to 1898 and a new sculpture-like wing, which includes the new extension. This allows visitors to take a tour through the old and the new. As a result of the latest construction work, the museum has gained large, multi-purpose exhibition halls, a modern library and an auditorium for public events.

Classical music meets Alpine horns and hammered dulcimers
The third edition of Classic Openair will be held in the stately surrounds of Rychenbergpark in Winterthur from July 8 – 10. Opening night boasts a blend of classical and folk music, with Eliana Burki on Alpine horn and Christoph Pfändler playing the hammered dulcimers. Star mezzo-soprano Vesselina Kasarova and a host of other singers will wow crowds on the second evening with a brilliant selection from famous operas. And on family day music from various films will keep the kids entertained, such as the themes from Indiana Jones and The Pink Panther. Classic Openair is organized by the Musikkollegium Winterthur.

Switzerland’s largest carnival
Züri Fäscht was first held in 1951 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the canton of Zurich joining the Swiss Confederation. These days, it’s the country’s largest carnival. In 2016 the city by the Limmat River will once again become Switzerland’s main attraction from July 1 – 3. If the weather is warm, organizers expect as many as two million visitors. This year, Zurich’s night sky will be lit up by not two but three fireworks displays. Numerous stages, a wide-ranging entertainment program and countless food stalls guarantee there will be something for everyone. The entire program can now be downloaded from the redesigned Züri Fäscht app.
