When photography creates identity
Photography played an integral role in the success of vinyl records. From Grace Jones to David Bowie and the Rolling Stones, photography gave many musicians and bands an unmistakable visual identity through their record covers. Richard Avedon, David Bailey, David LaChapelle, Annie Leibovitz and Juergen Teller are just a few of the most famous photographers who have worked for record labels. The Total Records exhibition at the Fotomuseum Winterthur is currently showcasing around 500 record covers that exemplify the innovative, creative interaction between vinyl and photography, and takes visitors on a journey through the history of media in the 20th century.
